Upon further inspection it appears that a few of the cross beams or ribs (not sure the exact name) were broken in the middle. I was rushing to get in through some steep chop last time I was out and this is where it must have happened, lesson learned. Removing the rube would allow the side wall to straighten and the new section of pipe would hold it straight.

A wire wheel makes short work of silicone sealers. The snow seal looking stuff will only have a slight mechanical bind on the fastener and won't be adhered to the aluminum.
