The heat and catalytic properties of the reformer cause the following reaction: CH 4 + H 2 O -> 3H 2 + CO. The remaining carbon monoxide is then converted in the water gas shift (WGS) assembly to produce more hydrogen: CO + H 2 O -> CO 2 + H 2.
